After a moment of anxiety and posturing, Cady and Pary decide to join forces with Rich, Brady, and Skillbo.
With the help of Deckar’s map, Brady convinces the group to follow the trail and try to find the Syndicate back up location.
Taking the highway as the fastest route with Pary driving, they take to the road. Along the way, about 4 miles outside of downtown, they notice Deckar’s hummer on the side of the highway. The exterior of the hummer appeared strangely damaged, appearing pitted and rusted. Upon inspection, it seemed as if the hummer had been left intentionally, as any useful supplies were conspicuously missing. The group raided the stockpile of weapons and confiscated many useful firearms, but all without ammo. Pary and Skillbo notice the weather start to turn stormy, and hasten their efforts to unload the vehicle. Feeling appreciative, Skillbo leaves a note and a roll of Smarties for Deckar upon his return. As they’re preparing to leave, Skillbo realizes something horrible about the damage to the hummer, and the connection to the storm rolling in. He yells “Acid rain!”, and the group makes a mad dash for the nearest highway exit. As they are are dashing, Skillbo sees that there are literally hundreds and hundreds of infected shambling with the rain wall.
Much to their dismay, there is a massive blockade of cars preventing them from driving their Apocalypse Rig through the exit. Deciding to make their way on foot, the group temporarily ditches the rig to find shelter from the storm. They make their way into the first building that lends enough protection, a 5 story modern office building right off the exit.
Choosing to duck into an office on the second floor, Skillbo is immediately grabbed by the scruff and pulled inside the room. Rich, Pary, Cady, and Brady follow him to find a man with a scar on his face holding Skillbo at tonfa-point, and being urged to be silent. There is a small young woman in the room who diffuses the situation and introduces herself as Astrid, the man with the tonfa as Daylin, and a man hunched in the corner as Klaus. Cady notices that they may be married, and that the man is injured with what looks like a bite. Thinking it may be time to find another place to hide, the group tries to leave, but is prevented by Daylin, who doesn’t want to create any noise that may attract the infected that have now made their way into the building downstairs.
While they are waiting out the rain storm, Klaus begins to cough uncontrollably, and then seize violently. After a momentary stand off, Skillbo makes his way to Klaus’s side to do what needs done. Before he can, Daylin slips out of the room and away from the most immediate danger. In a panic, Astrid tries to protect her husband from whatever may be happening, but does not succeed as Skillbo makes mash potatoes out of Klaus’s brain stem.
Terrified and hurt, Astrid tries to wrestle Skillbo to the ground, before giving up, and weeping herself to sleep in a corner.
Or so they thought. As soon as the clamor outside the door quiets, Astrid makes for the door of the office, only to be strong armed back into submission by the gang, and then tied to a chair for easier containment.
Realizing there’s no waiting out this horde, the group decides to concoct a distraction. While Pary expertly scopes out an escape route, Skillbo creates a sound bomb to throw into the lobby of the building.
Distraction in place, the group makes for the closest stair well, leaving Astrid duct taped to an office chair, a gun with one bullet in her reach. Overcome with a strange madness to eat drywall as he’s realizing what is to be Astrid’s fate, Skillbo doubles back for her, and wheels her back out of the office and to escape through the stairwell. Rich scares her into being quiet for the time being, and the group makes their way out of the building.
Before they can reach the highway exit, Astrid takes off as fast as she can, in the opposite direction from the group. Much to their delight.
Deciding to take the long way around this portion of downtown, the group gets back underway.
In order to avoid the danger zone, the heroes will have to venture into Imboden, take the interstate east, then north around the Imbryn Strip, and then back east to North Bryn. Or, they could take the short cut across the Strip by taking the Imbryn Bridge.
Where in the world is Deckar? Did he survive the weird Horde Rain storm? Does the horde follow the storm? Or does the storm follow the horde? What will the group find out next about this world?
